The Mission and Goals of North Idaho Bikeways
To develop a Bike/Pedestrian Path System connection communities neighborhoods, businesses, schools, parks and recreational areas for Bonner County in the North Idaho Panhandle.
A. Provide bike/pedestrian paths for alternate transportation opportunities for citizens while facilitating access to community areas such as parks, school and neighborhood activity centers. This may have the added benefit of reducing motorized traffic in congested areas.
B. Identify, prioritize, and promote those pathway locations to achieve a Master Plan Design that will be implemented, constructed and connect all Bonner County Communities.
C. Provide bike path suggestions on all new State Transportation and Bonner County projects. New Highway projects should include facilities for bicyclists and pedestrians.
D. Promote financial support from governmental agencies, corporations, public and private organizations and individual citizens for bike trail development.
E. Encourage cities and counties to adopt in their comprehensive plans on-street or off-street bike/pedestrian pathways with all major street improvements.
F. Get appropriate signage for direction and destination points along pathways installed so residents and visitors alike can identify, locate and safely use appropriate pathways.
G. Create a pathway map that identifies all pathways and indicated the location type and destinations of each path for user convenience.
H. Promote increased bicycle parking facilities in high use areas.
