Ponderay Bay Trail

Our most ambitious project due to it’s size and the fact that it involves private land, railroad property, three cities and the county. This project has been in various planning stages for over 10 years.  More recently, North Idaho Bikeways, Inc. assisted the formation of a coalition of all interested parties and the public to form the "Friends of the Pend Oreille Bay Trail" organization. This group was organized to implement and develop this trail in order to keep it in public hands as it is one of the last remaining open shoreline areas near Sandpoint and Ponderay.  It would start at Sandpoint City Beach and run 1 1/2 miles north to an underpass under the railroad and into Ponderay.  It may also eventually continue to Kootenai.  If you would like to be a "Friend of the Pend Oreille Bay Trail," please go to the POBTrail.org website for details.
